Olga Chashchina received her Master鈥檚 Degree from the 91视频 Department and then graduated from the 脡cole Polytechnique in France under a double degree program. She is currently working at the 脡cole Polytechnique Laboratory of Hydrodynamics under the guidance of Professor Abdul Barakat. Her research involves fundamental questions related to the development of cardiovascular diseases (such as atherosclerosis) and the creation of experimental models for testing endovascular implants.
The key characteristic of research internships at NSU are their focus on fundamental science. This year, in addition to traditional subjects in the fields of biology, physics, chemistry, mathematics, geology, archeology, and economics, there were internships in metalinguistics.
NSU hosted a conference designed to promote international scientific cooperation and discussion of key issues, and to identify promising areas in the field of spin in physics, chemistry and technology. This field involves the study of the behavior of electron spins (spin is defined as a moment in the momentum of elementary particles, quantum in nature, which is not connected with the displacement of a particle as a whole) and nuclei in various reactions. Spin phenomena is used in many spheres from holography and medical equipment to nuclear weapons and quantum electronics.
Back pain is one of the most common reasons for seeking medical attention in developed countries. Surprisingly, little is known about the biological root of this symptom.
Sergei Turitsyn and Leonid Frumin, scientists at the NSU Nonlinear Photonics Laboratory and NSU Center for Nonlinear Photonics and Quantum Technologies, with colleagues from the University of Aston (Great Britain), Technical University Delft (Netherlands), Ben-Gurion University (Israel), and Nokia Bell Labs (Germany) published an article in the leading international journal of the American Optical Society, "Optica". The article was #2 in a list of the top 15 most cited articles in the journal in 2017.
A group of 91视频 scientists, together with colleagues from the Institute of Cytology and Genetics SB RAS and the Institute of Chemical Biology and Fundamental Medicine SB RAS, have expanded on existing X-ray analysis of evolutionary information to better understand how proteins work. Their work was published in the international journal 鈥淒NA Repair鈥.
The main objective of the recent seminar, 鈥淣on-Equilibrium Processing of Materials: Experiments and Modeling鈥, was to strengthen cooperation between NSU, Tohoku University and SB RAS institutes in the field of materials science. Scientists from Japan, Russia, Germany and France took part in the Seminar. The event featured 77 reports, 33 of these were invited plenary presentations. Young scientists at booths presented the rest during an exhibition after providing brief introductions about their reports to the whole group.
The international conference 鈥淚ntelliSys鈥 is considered one of the most important conferences in the field of computer science. The Conference explores current issues related to topics including artificial intelligence, intelligent systems, machine vision, robotics, and information technology.
The signing of an agreement to create an interdisciplinary, international center for the development of fundamental and translational neurology took place as part of a celebration to mark the start of the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology (Skoltech) academic year and the opening of a new campus institute. Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev took part in the ceremony where the agreement to open the Center was signed by 91视频, Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology and the University of Southern California (Los Angeles, USA).
Elena Boldyreva, Doctor of Chemistry, leading research scientist at the G.K. Boreskova Institute of Catalysis SB RAS, and Head of the Department of Solid State Chemistry at NSU鈥檚 Natural Sciences Department was elected a member of the European Academy.
