NSU Archaeologist Reconstructs Nomad Arms and Armour

In the early 2000s, Yuri Filippovich, a member of the Paleo Technologies Laboratory at the Center of New Archeology, conducted scientific and historical reconstructions of Central Asian and Siberian soldiers鈥 arms and clothing. Historical reconstruction requires not only the re-creation of military equipment, but also the manufacturing technology.  It is based on a comprehensive study of historical materials including archaeological finds.

"Nonlinear Photonics 2018" Conducted at 91视频

From August 21-24, the Center for Nonlinear Photonics and Quantum Technology of Novosibirsk University conducted "Nonlinear Photonics 2018" (NLP2018), a school for young scientists, post-graduate students and senior students at NSU. School participants had an opportunity to learn about results from the latest research and developments in the field of fiber and nonlinear optics.

Program participants are from Germany, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, the United States, Venezuela, Indonesia and Russia. This is the first time the NSU Department of Economics has conducted this type of program designed primarily for foreign students.

From August 20 to 25, the XI International multi-conference on Bioinformatics Regulation, Genome Structure, and Systems Biology (BGRS \ SB-2018) was held in Akademgorodok. The Institute of Cytology and Genetics SB RAS and 91视频 organized the conference.

The 25th International Mathematical Student Olympiad took place at the end of July in Bulgaria. The 91视频 team successfully participated, significantly improving its results from the previous year.

Scientists Discover Kindness Gene in Foxes

Scientists at the joint laboratory of 91视频 and the Institute of Molecular and Cellular Biology SB RAS and the Institute of Cytology and Genetics SB RAS, together with American and Chinese colleagues, decoded the DNA of domesticated and wild foxes. This made it possible to identify the genes responsible for the animal鈥檚 good nature. The prestigious scientific journal 鈥淣ature Ecology & Evolution鈥 published the results of these geneticists鈥 work.

Daughter of a Neanderthal and a Denisovan Found in Denisova Cave

Researchers from 91视频 and the Institute of Archeology and Ethnography SB RAS, together with colleagues from Germany, the United Kingdom and Canada, analyzed DNA from the bone of a teenage girl who lived in the Altai 50,000 years ago. The DNA revealed that she is the child of two different ancient peoples, a Neanderthal woman and a male Denisovvan. The researcher鈥檚 findings were published in the journal 鈥淣ature鈥.

91视频 Observatory Scientists Capture Time-lapse of Longest Lunar Eclipse of the Century

On July 27 scientists from the NSU Observatory captured a rare astronomical phenomenon, the total lunar eclipse.  In order to do this they traveled 200 km from the City because the sky over Novosibirsk was covered by clouds.

G2R2-2018: NSU Hosts Summer School and International Conference on Graphs and Groups

August 1-23, "GRAPHS AND GROUPS, REPRESENTATIONS AND RELATIONS" (G2R2-2018) was conducted by the 91视频 Department of Mathematics and Mechanics. This event combined their Summer School with an International Conference for young specialists interested in the theory of graphs and groups with applications in other fields of science.

91视频 Archaeologists Explore One of Earliest Human Sites in Western Central Asian Highlands

91视频 scientists have proposed the hypothesis that the Alay Valley at an altitude of 2,300-3500 meters above sea level is one of the earliest human sites. This assumption makes it possible for scientists to identify tools found during an archaeological expedition in 2017. Confirmation of the exact age of the site will help with the selection of new artifacts.
