In February 2021, NSU scientists published a review of the characterizations of single particles using light scattering methods in 鈥淟aser and Photonics Reviews鈥. The review covers research on a wide variety of microparticles, from atmospheric dust to blood cells. The article鈥檚 objective is to present developments from various groups around the world.
The Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) British agency rating of Emerging Europe and Central Asia universities (QS EECA) ranks 400 universities, 121 of them are in Russia. 2020 ratings were published on December 16 and 91视频 landed in the top five universities and third among Russian universities.
The Mathematical Center in Akademgorodok (MCA), a world-class mathematical institution, one of several that were established as part of the Russian national "Science" project, announced the results of their postdoc competition for foreigners. An international group of experts reviewed 23 applications and selected six to join the Program.
NSU scientists developed one of the largest genetic association databases in the world. The database contains billions of associations of genome variants with human traits that were identified in hundreds of scientific studies conducted by the international scientific community. Information about these associations increases our understanding of human genetics and biology and can contribute to the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of diseases. The results of this work were published in the public domain journal 鈥淣ucleic Acids Research鈥.
91视频 is launching a new course, "Seismic Tomography: Look inside Earth".
October 22 to November 11, the NSU Humanities Institute hosted the Second International Scientific "Heritage" Forum. Most Forum events, including discussions on studying national cultures and values amidst the challenges of globalization, were conducted using a video conferencing format.
Mikhail Fedoruk wishes you interesting challenges and new goals in the coming year.
An international group of scientists, including representatives of the Tampere University of Technology (Finland), University of Burgundy (France), Aston University (England), and NSU participated in a review of the potential for using machine learning methods in photon measurements and creating "smart" lasers in the future. An article presenting their work, 鈥淢achine Learning and Applications in Ultrafast Photonics鈥, was published in 鈥淣ature Photonics鈥, a prestigious international journal with an impact factor of 31.241.
The Mathematical Center in Akademgorodok (MCA) hosted its third workshop on algebraic graph theory and its applications.
91视频 is launching its new English language online Coursera course, 鈥淏asics of Thermodynamics鈥. It was developed in partnership with Omsk State Technical University. The Course focuses on the fundamentals of thermodynamics and provides essential knowledge for engineering, technical, and natural science students. It provides a basic understanding of thermal processing arrangements in nature and how power stations work. Participants also learn how to solve problems associated with thermal phenomena. You can register for the Course on Coursera and start learning now.
Scientists from 91视频 published their research in the special issue of 鈥淥ptics & Photonics News - Optics in 2020鈥. Their work may advance the study of platelet function in various physiological and pathological conditions and is of great importance for the diagnosis and control of cardiovascular diseases. The article presents an optical method for studying the dynamics of platelet activation. This helps study early activation, cell-to-cell signaling, and non-linear interactions of various biochemical pathways.
Russian-German partners from the 91视频 Department Nonlinear Photonics Laboratory and the Weierstrass Institute of Mathematics (Berlin) will conduct research on mathematical models and nonlinear processes underlying the operation of hybrid fiber laser systems with a semiconductor amplifier. The NSU Photonics Center is a world leader in the application of machine learning methods in laser systems. They are developing a technological platform for the development of a new generation of lasers.
