NSU and SESC Students Are Awarded Diplomas in International Cryptography Olympiad

The 2021 International Cryptography Olympiad Non-Stop University CRYPTO was dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Cryptographic Service in the Russian Federation. It was held online with two independent competitions, individual and team. Aleksey Shiryaev from the NSU Specialized Educational and Scientific Center (SESC NSU) received an honorary diploma in the «School» category, and Konstantin Romanov, a student at NSU’s IT Department, was awarded a third-degree diploma in the «University» category. In the team competition, Rinchin Zapanov, Artem Sadykov and Ilya Oduda, students from the NSU and Departments received a third-degree diploma. Overall, 32 individuals and 40 teams from 17 countries were awarded diplomas and prizes.

The Olympiad problems included those that did not require special training, as well as others based on complex mathematical equipment and programming. The Olympiad Committee included specialists from Russia, the USA, and a number of European countries who are experts in various fields of cryptography. The problems that must be solved are relevant and of practical importance.

— The main goal of the Olympiad is to involve participants in solving problems. This year two problems were given at once. The problem to find a special partition of a function was partially solved and a new sufficient condition for its existence was found. This problem is relevant for masking data to protect the cipher from attacks through third-party channels. Another problem related to the search for an error correction scheme for quantum communication channels. A qualitative scheme was proposed that reduces the number of complex operations that negatively affect accuracy, — talked about the competition Co-chairman of the Olympiad Program Committee and Senior Lecturer at the NSU Mechanics and Mathematics Department Anastasia Gorodilova.

Sponsors for the Olympiad were the Cryptographic Center (Novosibirsk), the Mathematical Center in Akademgorodok, NSU, the Sofia Kovalevskaya North-West Center for Mathematical Research.
